Harrow Council is a London Borough in North West London serving a growing population of more than 250,000 people. In common with Local Authorities throughout the UK, Harrow are committed to improving the efficiency of waste collection in the Borough to meet challenging national and regional targets on reducing landfill. As part of this, Harrow Council’s Waste and Recycling Department sought expressions of interest from training providers to establish a high quality apprenticeship programme to attract new recruits to the sector.
Skillcert secured the contract through competitive tender to deliver an initial 15 WAMITAB Apprenticeships. As this was a new venture for Harrow Council; Skillcert were able to provide best practice advice and reassurance throughout to ensure the success of the integration of young apprentices into the waste division for the first time.
Candidates work towards a WAMITAB Level 2 qualification in Sustainable Resources Management whilst working as waste loaders with the Council. Skillcert’s focus on providing a bespoke training intervention focused on individual training needs has ensured that individuals have been able to access the specialist support they need to complete their training.
